ive been absorbing this web site for a while now, great theory for engine builders and basics. the company designs and build systems for aircraft, but it all applies. might be a bit heavy for some.

mechanical basics TOC (force, friction, fatique, cyclical fatique, fretting failure, beairings, vibration):

engine basics:

power and torque- http://epi-eng.com/piston_engine_technology/power_and_torque.htm

thermal efficiency- http://epi-eng.com/piston_engine_technology/thermal_efficiency.htm

volumtric efficiency- http://epi-eng.com/piston_engine_technology/volumetric_efficiency.htm

piston motion basics- http://epi-eng.com/piston_engine_technology/piston_motion_basics.htm

cam and valves(applies more toward reliability in aircraft, still a good read)- http://epi-eng.com/piston_engine_technology/camshaft_basics.htm

more advanced subjects:

exhaust system pressure wave tuning (very important!)- http://epi-eng.com/piston_engine_technology/exhaust_system_technology.htm

hydrodynamic bearings (the kind your rods and crank run on, interesting section on grooved main bearings)-

BMEP- great read for those who bullshit engine numbers- http://epi-eng.com/piston_engine_technology/bmep_performance_yardstick.htm

torsional excitation (aka engine vibration)- http://epi-eng.com/piston_engine_technology/torsional_excitation_from_piston_engines.htm

looks that way, oh well, i figured it was a little above most of the memebers of this forum.

Cool. A little heavy for sure, but I'm hooked and I'll be reading through it (albeit slowly).

Thanks for posting.

Nice read...

Some good information in there for people who are looking to expand their intellect.

Another bump. Good reads. Even if the math scares the reader, the explanations used are great, and most of the equations should be understood by anyone who has taken a basic physics class. It is all very well explained.

Hmm, somehow I missed when this was originally posted. Going to have to take the time to read them now, always looking to learn more.

A LOT of good info. It isn't above those in the 35 yr old and up class hough. Most pf us are not addicted to common core thinking. Unless that common core happens to be S-10s.

Trouble with performance. drive at 70 MPH for about 1 hour, lift off gas to 65 MPH. engine starts to lose power. push down on peddel back up to 75 MPH. engine starts to improve slowly. other issues, truck park at home, go our next day to start, nothing works, except front lights and dash lights. it dose not even turn over engine. wait two days, go out and it starts. what is going on??? Help please.

What would I be getting myself involved in....... I have already sale my '94 TBI manifold and TB with all the sensors from my '94 engine to a '95 CMPI vortec. I know the sensors are of slightly because the here block "breaths" better, has better heads, better cam, etc that have it 40+ more HP. Problem is this.. I have not put the HEI coil on this bear get. Anyone have that crystal ball that can for see any issues? Its my ONLY driver, and if I have it apart for another whole weekend without spending time with my wife I fear bad things could happen? I have all the books but she gets annoyed when I am face first in then for this also. Thought for sure some one has done it already, maybe I could save some time here! Thanks y'all had a good weekend

:)
