what is the best way to remove emblems without harming the paint??

There are tons of threads on this. Just search around a bit.

Back in the day when I pulled mine, I used a hair dryer and fishing line with decent results. Depending on how old your truck is, the adhesive may stick more. I just used an adhesive remover to remove the excess.

ok cool my truck is brand new just got it, what did you use the line for? to pull it under the emblem??

If your truck is new, the shit will come right off no problem. Yeah the line is to pull the emblem up enough to get your hand on it, also mixing with the heat works the glue free. I only had a problem with the "chevrolet" emblem on the rear. It left a bit of residue, the others pretty much came right off.

thanks man, i also have a 98 and was afraid to remove the emblems in fear of the paint being faded around the emblem but this one should turn out fine
