I have an Electrical problem on my S10 the battery keeps going dead after 5 to 7 days have replaced and replaced and it has sat a long time, I start it and drive it by jumping it, it's the extended cab, I have replaced the alternator... I am looking for help and idea's they want 400.00 up front to put it on a machine to diagnose it and then 150.00 an hour to fix it...

My wife just had a major aneurysm to her heart she survived the surgeries which was a miracle, we have to cut cars to save our home, so getting this fixed I can get rid of a Ridgeline that totally sucks, don't buy one trust me youll regret it....

I love my truck but I need to find help with recommending a good mechanic in Reno, Nevada or idea's

Would be a tremendous help to us...

Thank you

wire a light bulb or buzzer in series between the negative post and chassis ground. start pulling fuses to see which is the problem circuit. also disconnect the alternator positive connection to rule it out. check the battery voltage and disconnect it for a few days to see if it's losing power on it's own. electrical is not fun hence the diagnostic cost.

really not a trick at all, just pull each fuse and replace one at a time until the light goes out. shouldnt be more than 10 mins total start to finish. once you find the circuti post back up what it is, and we can give you ideas to try, i bet within a few hours at most youll have it fixed

Okay finally took it to a shop, they say it is the key that locks the doors is staying on all the time and they are pulling its fuse, then they want 5 grand replace the front wheel bearings, oil pan seal, the timing chain seal, i know thats not its name but i am really tired... the truck is not even worth 5 grand I said come on...so I call les swhab and they will do the front wheel bearings pack them put them on and front end alignment for 400 bucks... how does a shop get 400 for electrical then 400 to les that 800 so how do they get to 5,000? and its not the timing chain they want to replace just the seal....

Pretty sure it's the starter grounding itself.
Before you run out and buy a new one, try this first.
Disconnect the positive cable from the battery. Then remove the cable from the starter.
Now turn off the radio and remove it's fuse (make sure you have the radio code if so equipped), close the doors to keep interior lights off, ignition off.
Now touch the positive cable back to the positive battery post. There should be No Spark when touched.
If it sparks, there's something pulling electricity (short). Or maybe something else you added that requires constant power that's not off, or you left the interior light on, headlights......

If no spark, leave the positive cable off the battery, and replace the starter cable to the starter.
Now touch the positive cable back to the battery positive post. If it now arcs/sparks, your starter is the cause.
