With the design of the S-10's rear shackles it would not be possible to get more than 1/4" or so of drop out of them due to the fact that the leafspring would hit the frame if they were any shorter. Fullsize trucks use the leafs on the outside of the frame, and the shackles are below the leafs, so it would be possible to use longer shackles to lower one of those. And you're right, they're not hard to make. My uncle made a set for an old C-10 that he had and it dropped the truck about 3" if I remember correctly.
