I have a 5/6 and I have a steep incline getting out of my shop and I do not need the carrier bearing xmember. I guess it would depend on what size rim you are running though. I am running 18/19 combo.

I am all against heating coils and don't ride on cut coils, but wouldn't pulling leafs be considered a hack too? Cutting coils increases the spring rate causing it to ride softer so would pulling leafs... right?

Kinda in a way it could be seen as a hack because yes it does make your leafs lose quite a bit of stiffness, but by allowing yourself to run a stiffer shock such as a drop shock it would fix 80% of the softened ride.

Its not really perceived to be dangerous to anyone or anything as long as you put the leaf back together right and make sure everything is tight. But for example if your gonna pull more than one leaf or your gonna monoleaf it that's a hack and deam's it to be unsafe.

That's the way I look at it if anyone disagrees I would love to here your input.

Leaf springs are different from coils. The spring rate isn't in the whole leaf pack its in each leaf separately. So by pulling a leaf you get a softer ride, which most people make up for with a stiffer shock or air shock.

cutting coils when done properly really isn't too bad. Just my experience
This is not a spring cutting thread. This is a how to drop using aftermarket parts thread.

And ross, i would add in the use of angled blocks, and add the jags that run website as well.

Cutting coils increases spring rate which in turn causes the ride to be more firm. Pulling a leaf decreases the load capacity, and softens the ride, nothing hack about it though. Just don't expect to be able to haul as much without helper bags or air shocks.

Its only hack when you remove to many, like all of them except for the main spring. Its basically too weak and can bend and cause problems.

I have had cut coil's in my old s10 i have experience with them also, but this thread is to help with the proper way to drop your ride not the proper way to hack it to dog shit and make it unsafe. To often on this forum I find thread's with new guy's trying to figure out how to drop there truck's and people that don't know the proper way to begin with chime in and go "Hey brah why don't you just like umm cut your front coil springs in half and like umm monoleaf it then static dragzzz lawl." and that's not the correct answer at all. So if you could and are willing please keep the cut coils discussion out of this thread. Thank's.

And MO about time you chimed in on this thread i was waiting for your static knowledge to creep its way in here. If you see anything i left out please help add it in here, I think i touched base on all of it though.

Good chime in with info also Ryan always appreciated. Ill get going on the angled drop blocks vs. normal drop blocks article.

Thank's,

Ross

yea, i see no problem pulling a leaf, but riding mono is certainly a bad idea.

Ross, as much as I appreciate the time and effort that you put into this thread it's saddening that it'll will probably just get lost amongst all the other threads with great info. People can't even understand the search function let alone have enough brains to do a little research before making asinine threads.

I do like the thread though and agree with Ryan about the addition of angled blocks and these links...

I realize that just the one link would have sufficed but folks these days love to be spoon fed their info and there's a great deal of knowledge on that site.
