Why do you ask? Several reasons; like its famous 9" big brother, the 8.8 is very tough. Many drag racers run this rear-end stock and have no breakage when running in the 9s. For the cost of just a limited slip for a Chevy 10 bolt, you get the more muscular rear end AND disc brakes! I picked up...www.s10forum.com
The ever so elusive 8.5 s10 rear costs more IF you find one, you have to get your driveshaft shortened 3/4" also whereas the 8.8 gets a conversion u joint and a 3.00 fitting to go from ford to chevy on the main brake line.
Also keep in mind you’re going to have to match your gearing front to back. The 8.8 can come with 3.73s, so if you have a GT4 RPO code front diff to match you’re golden, unlikely in your truck though, GU6 most likely.thank you very much
