Engine cranks. I have spark. Engine acts like it wants to start, almost starts to run, and just immediately dies once key releases.

I've tested fuel pump relay, ignition coil, pick up coil, control module, etc, etc. And everything else I could think of to look up in the shop manual. Tried to just fuel pressure, but I couldn't get my tester to work correctly. Installed valve pre-filter a long time ago. Don't know if it's still good. So haven't verified good fuel pressure, but injectors bores look jjst fine will fuel spray.

Truck is not a daily driver, but up until recently, it would start no problem. But most of the time, it sets in the parking lot. Distributor cap does have some signs of moisture, so I contact cleaner sprayed it and cleaned it up. Top of distributor was pretty rusty. Tried cleaning it up as well. Maybe pickup coil rusted out bad?

Should I try a new cap and rotor first? I have spark, but maybe it's not good spark all around?

Give it a shot of starter fluid. If it starts for a few seconds the problem is fuel supply. If there is no change, it's a spark issue.

I had a very similar problem with my truck. It hadn't run in a while. Found out it wasn't getting fuel after the first crank. The injectors were brand new, so I figured it was an electrical issue. I got a tester for the things that plug into the top of the injectors and found out that they were working. I plugged them back in and it fired right up. I still have no idea how that fixed it, but it did, and it's been working ever since. They rent the testers out at AutoZone.
