It was recommended that I check and clean the egr to see if that helps the weak acceleration feeling. However, it was never explained what I need to check or how to clean the egr.

Do I just scrape the carbon buildup out or use some sort of liquid cleaner??

Remove the EGR valve, on one side you'll see a inlet port the other has a valve in it. Using a good carb cleaner spray the inside down and let it soak. Once soaked using some form of a small brush, clean it out. The other side you can easily push the valve in and spray the internal there and use the brush to remove any carbon buildup on the side. The spray alone in done in increments will remove most all of it.
