I just picked up a Walker universal catalytic convertor for my 97, 2.2. It doesn't have any markings on it and I was wondering if there is a front and back to it, or if it can be installed in any direction.

Do you happen to have a picture of it? Typically the universal fit cats have a "slip fit" that is the inlet on the converter.

No, I don't. I can take one tomorrow.

I installed it with the air tube pointing forward. It was blocked off because it wasn't needed on this application. Both sides had the same 2-1/4" ID pipe. On the outside it was an identical copy of the two halves. I looked on the inside and couldn't see any differences, just the mesh screen with "300" written on both sides.

It seemed to run normal after we finished. I was going to keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't pop a code.

If you have the air pipe pointing towards the engine, you'll be fine. Did you
have to get a cat that has a post o2 sensor in it ? If so the o2 sensor bung
end goes out the towards the muffler.

Cool. The cat just had a small piece of tubing on both ends of it. I had to cut up the old one and transer the flanges, O2 bung, and mount over to the new one.
