Has anyone changed out their carrier bearing crossmembers on their extended cabs? And if so does anyone have any pics or details on how to do so correctly? I am about to do mine but would like some pointers so I don't end up hackin the hell outta my rig. Any help would be great!

are you getting the one from the GP? its pretty easy, unbolt the carrier bearing, drill out the rivots, bolt the new one up, bolt the carrier bearing up.

i just took out the one in my 98s10.
it was a pain in the ass.you have to CUT the old one out ,which you need to use a plasma cutter to keep it nice and neat,we started with a cutoff torch but i made a mess down there.
then drill your holes and bolt the new one in.

Well unfortunately I don't have a plasma cutter:( I was just going to grind the rivet head off smooth and then pop the remainder out. I guess I will see how that turns out, or just go somewhere to have it done. Thanks gents!

what the hell is a plasma cutter? expensive? thats the only way to get the old one out?
they rule, i've got one, its what a lot of shops use to cut metal, or thick metal. its like a torch hooked up to an air compressor. it blows the flame through the metal cutting it.

Other ways to remove it

I have to look back underneath the trucks but other ways of popping rivits out is to cut an x pattern into the rivit heads with a die grinder or cut of wheel. Then take an air chisel, knock off the head and then change to a pointed attachment for the air chisel and pop the rest of the rivit out.

here is a pic of the crossmembers. We have a Group Purchase right now on the GP board, still not to late to get into it.
