Hey guys, so I’ve got a 2000 S10 4x4. It’s got the 4.3 and I believe the nv3500 behind it. I’ve been searching for a replacement shifter for months now and haven’t been able to find anything. I’m not sure if I’m just looking in the wrong places or don’t know enough but here goes. My problem is the typical sloppy shifter issue, but it’s much much worse than any “normal” slop. I’ve pulled the shifter assembly because I originally thought it was the shifter cap on the bottom of the lever which was missing. However I also noticed that the “shifter caps” on the dowel of the shifter were missing. The last thing is that on top of all of this is that the shifter will just lay on whatever side you push it to, making it near impossible to find a gear with the amount of play that is in the shifter. From the research I’ve done I’ve gotten two answers and I’m not sure which is correct, but digging into my shifter again may help answer that. Answer one is that the shifters centering ability is caused by some sort of internal detent that cannot be serviced without a rebuild. The other is that there are several spring type shims located on the shifter in the shifter assembly that when installed create a spring like effect centering the shifter. I know this was a lot of information and some what scattered but I’ve searched and not been able to come up with anything, any help at all is truly appreciated. Thank you!

If you can't find stock, they do make a short throw shifter for it....

Have you taken the stock shifter out to see what the problem is? It may just need a new bushing cup under the ball.

yeah I’ve been looking at those for a while, they’re out of stock. I haven’t bothered to call to see if they’re going to make anymore, but maybe I should.

Wrong transmission....

that looks right, the only thing that I was unsure of was the shift rails. Im not quite sure what those are and how to check if they matched up. Although it wouldn’t be hard to order and find out, so maybe I’ll just try it lol

They're still available from GM for about $200 new. Part number is 12382854.

Otherwise keep checking the junkyards. They're not super common, but I've come across a few.
