I have been thinking about this swap and recently lots of questions have come up about it. I was originally going to use a C5 wheel. The airbag type is the same as the s10, but the connector is different. I asked a gm tech who did the swap. (Mike over at ZR2USA) He said he soldered the s10 connector to the vette, pretty sure it was the clock spring connector to airbag. The splines for the C5 match the s10 so it would be an easy swap. While researching at corvetteforum I came across and c6 to c5 steering wheel swap. I really like the c6 wheel better. The problem is the center section of the c5 wheel had to be removed and welded to the c6 wheel while the airbag is left non functioning. I want to find out what can and can not be swapped. Currently I am trying to source a c6 airbag that has been deployed to get a look at the igniter, it might match the size of the c5 or s10 airbags. I got this idea from a lexus wheel swap where they had to switch the airbag igniters to make the airbag functional again. There was talk over at the corvette forum, but no one followed up. I will try to fill those gaps. Here are some pics of the c5 and c6 wheels and airbags.
good thing about the c6 wheel is it is shared by the cobalt and HHR so there easy to find cheaper then the c5 wheel. I will update soon.
