What is the best year model to get with a 4.3 for power? Not just stock, but for modified power also? Also, what kind of power do the 4.3s put down with basic bolt ons? Is there a decent acceleration difference between the manual and auto? Thanks for any help!

Well the 96+ all were the best and most popular for bolt ons. But I would say the best are 99+ for the fact that you can use LS1 edit on them. Also I beleive the 00+ dont have air injection.

when first finding a truck i found the the auto had much worse acceleration than the manuals.. but i find this in almost every truck/car i drove.. 3rd gear just sucks in our trucks, does anyone know a way to improve besides gears?

I'm guessing by air injection you mean an air pump putting air into the exhaust when the motor is cold?

i woud say 96 and up with an SFI engine. 98 is when they came out with the new front fascia and interior. i would also try to find a SS or regular zq8 with a 4.3 liter. that way you will have a posi rearend already so you will not just spin one wheel when you keep adding mods.

good advice, i didn't think of the W. but do you mean 94 to 03 for the body style. 96-03 would be the the ones with the W in the vin for the engine.

The higher HP engine is on the 4x4s or the SS'. For engine that's the best after '98. '95-97 were plagued with problem due to being the first of the new series. The '98 Jimmy/Blazer also have some various problem but are better.

Now if you're set on performance, you could always just buy a clean 1st Gen or 2nd Gen ('94-97) for cheap and throw a new 4.3L Vortech Crate engine in it, as long as the truck originally had a 4.3L. Then you could change it to carbed if you wanted to build it that way or build it up as a vortech with a supercharger and so on. But it's $$$$. Not sure what you have in mind for a vehicle or what you want to do with it rather..

When it comes to autos vs. Manuals, most people wont notice unless you're racing.

What are you talking about? They are only 2 body styles. They are either 1st gens are 2nd gens. The 94's and up have been the same body style (2nd gen). In 98, the body didn't change, only the grill, side mirrors and dash changed.

LS1 edit is a program that lets you do all the tunning yourself. It is a very proven and reliable program. It blows the doors off of chips and power programmers.

i have an X code in my 03 2wd 4.3...i think the newest 4.3 may be one of the better ones besides maybe the 195hp cpi

yeah i have looked at an 03 at the dealer and noticed that it said mfi on the sticker. i went back and looked at mine and it said sfi. maybe they decided to put the engine from the blazer and 4x4 s-10 into the 03 2wd s-10's.
