I just bought a 2000 S-10 it is in unbelievable shape it only has 62,000 miles on it and contains no rust. I want to keep it that way but living in Northeast Ohio the amount of snow and salt used here during the winter is terrible so i was woundering if you gus know some tips on how to prevent rust?
Thanks

lol yeah erie sucks too, cars dont last more than a few years around here... just last week i seen one of the new bodystyle fullsize trucks with rust bubbles in the cab corner

honestly the best thing i can suggest is to keep it as clean as possible, my bosses truck is an 06 dodge ram 2500, and the first thing he has us do in the morning is wash his truck inside and out, especially during the winter months, and i am pretty impressed with how rust free that thing has stayed, it still looks like a brand new truck underneath

and if you can afford it, have the entire underside sprayed with rhino liner or line-x, that will help tremendously

I've got a good tip.

Underneeth the cab there are some black plastic plugs, take out the back one and stick a garden hose in there and flush it out a couple times a year. Make sure it drains water out of all the drain holes. And anywhere else you can find areas that hold dirt and crud.

I've been doing this to my 95 ZR2 since I got it when it was a year old and I have no rust and we get a lot of salt here in indy.

Move to Arizona. ...... Or
Coat all exposed metal with Por15
As a kid in 50s , my Granny keep her car in warm storage from Oct till May. Many in Montreal still do. I moved to CenTex. Stuff stays unrusted pretty long round here. But I still use Por15 on frames, under carriages.

i don't even know what to do with this new chemical shit they put down here in iowa.
It's probably calcium chloride which will even corrode aluminum and stainless steel. They squirt it on the roads before ice or snow and it has an adhesive and if you drive over it when it's still wet it will all adhere to your vehicle and not wash off. They tried including a rust inhibitor which works by inhibiting oxidation but that chemical was also ending up in streams, lakes and rivers and killing fish.
