I am interested in that swap, would love more info on how you fit that atlas I5 in the engine bay. I would love to do something like that without changing the cluster an steering column, and retain AC (too hot here to go without it). And what rear end, gear ratio and tranny do uypu have in there... The pics are great, your work looks amazing, but we need some specifics man!!!
Stock column and guages are going to get VERY hard, it would be easier to use the stock block and MS the engine at that point, but I don't know if you could talk the MS into running the VVT. The column might be able to be bypassed with an alarm to trick the passlock system, but the gauges on all these new trucks are stepper motors run right off the ECM, so at best, with a full second compliment of sensors, you wouldn't have any of the idiot lights.

Did you plasti dip the wheels or paint them. They look great with your Blazer
they will be painted, as you can’t heat up convo-pros as the seal in between the two wheel halves will separate and cause an air leak. The front wheel has ‘black’ over the front wheel to darken it done in photoshop. It actually is a stock polished alum convo pro wheel on the front. The rear wheel in the phot is the actual rear wheel from the very first picture in this thread, just painted black. The tires are 14 years old, dry rotted, and have been fun doing burnouts with. The truck is currently sitting at a friend’s shop about to start the rear back-half, which then will have 15x15 in rear black painted convo pros..

…what he said.

…what I did was found a wrecked Colorado. I took everything from it, Steering column, gas pedal (drive by wire) full front to rear (head light to taillights) wire harness, gauge cluster, engine, trans, driveline, computers, dash, air conditioning/heater box (mounts to firewall) fuel lines, fuel tank and I think that’s about it.

So if you can imagine my vehicle has a blazer body and frame. The rest of everything is Colorado. The Colorado BCM controls everything as it would in the Colorado. Late model GM computers control turn signals, cruise control, dome lights (auto turn off) and most importantly all gauges.

Since the donor was a 2005 it uses the VSS from the rear of the trans, and not the front wheel speed sensor, making it a very easy swap, with no computer speed problems causing the computer to go into limp mode.

All gauges work perfectly, only the ABS light was lit, as my blazer doesn’t have ABS, and I didn’t use the Colorado ABS computer. So to turn the light off of the cluster, I simply removed the LED. I have no check engine lights on, and the OBDII port still works as it would normally.

The computer has been reprogrammed for more power, a ported throttle body was added, and the custom built 5 cylinder header with o2 sensors.

Right now the stock Colorado fuel tank is inside the rear of the blazer, I used Earl AN Fittings and push-to-loc fuel lines to connect the factory GM fuel pump to the factory steel fuel lines on the motor. Once the rear back-half is done ill use the factory Colorado fuel pump and build it into a custom fuel cell.

But overall that’s about it. There should be plenty of pics in this thread or if you have any specific questions I can post something else up.

So did the Afghan trip get cancelled, then? Or did the wife let you know they arrived, and are waiting for your return?

Afghan get cancelled, lol.. I’ve been here since april, won’t be back in the usa till march..
And UPS tracking tells me they arrived, and now can be taken over to the chassis shop to be installed.

Awesome build. I had a 90 model 2 door 2wd blazer GAVE to me yrs ago. All it needed was a motor. Had a 2.8 sitting in the shop that came from a ex-cab I put a V8 in. Static dropped it like 6/6 with a set of 94-95 swirlies, painted it flat black, and drove the wheels off that thing. I was off working for a few months and got a call asking would I sell it. Couldn't refuse the offer. Kinda getting the itch to find another one. Its just finding the time (and $) to start a new build. And the fact my wife would probably divorce me if I drug another project in.

Man, I can't believe that I am saying this, but I really like your Blazer. This is coming from someone who has a blind burning hatred of flame paint schemes. But I dig your's.

The red and black are simple and clean. There is an often overlooked elegance in simplicity, and you really nailed it.

I also like the inline Atlas motor swap. You don't see that all too often.

Keep up the great build. And I wish you a safe return from your tour across the pond, as I am sure many other members here do as well.

thanks for the words! As far as I know im the only person who has put an i5 into an s10. I know I have helped another guy who is putting one into a jeep, but he is still collecting parts. And yes the flames I wanted something easy and simple, some people go overboard with cheesiness on flames.

looks more like a 3.5 to me. the 3.7 has an aluminum valve cover, unless someone swapped it over?
still a solid build, looking really good
3.5/3.7 their basically the exact same motor, I even write 3.5 or 3.7 cause I forget what it is.
