Bagged: 4-Door 1st Gen Blazer

So I can't go too long without bagging something, and after Rickys truck was done Jerid got all jealous and wanted to bag his truck, just another std cab. I convinced him that std cabs are gay :D and he should buy a blazer and bag that, and if youre going to go the trouble of bagging a blazer, it might as well be a 4 door right?!

So I found a blazer for him on ebay a couple hours away and picked it up for $860, hella cheap! CPI motor, power everything, loaded. Pulled it right into the garage and cut the shit out of it. I wanted it to be a quick job so I can get back to other projects but ended up taking about a month of working on it 1-2 hours after work each night. I didn't take a ton of pics, Im kinda burnt out on picture taking but I wish I had because a bunch of finished and detail shots are missing, oh well.. On with it.

First, the customary shot of the front end getting mocked up, obviously needs to be finished in this pic. SD arms with sway bar, stock spindles, Airlift Dominator bags (approval rating is high  ) Jerid handled this end of the project.

Im doing a superlift wshbone setup on the back, mainly because Ive never done one on a blazer and wanted to see what itll take. I was going to mount the bags inboard of the frame but didnt like how narrow that made the lower bars. After careful measurements, it was determined that I could easily put them outside the frame without too many mods. This truck will never be running anything bigger than 18s (if that) so the tire hitting the bag isnt as much a concern than if it was on 20s.

First pic is the front hangers I made, they will be gusseted on the bottom when installed as well. They are designed to wrap around the top of the frame and keep the lower bars level to the ground at ride height.

2nd is a pic of the hangers installed as well as the upper bag plate I made. Pretty simple, same wrap around design with extra long gussets. Its made for a Slam RE6 and sits the bag about 1/2" away from the frame. The lowers are SD square unwelded bars fitted with SD Square Threaded Bung kits.

3rd are SD axle tabs with what I made for the shock mounts. Its just an SD universal 4link bar brackets trimmed to fit. They already have 1/2" holes in them so they were perfect for SDs threaded shock studs.

Heres the kit mostly mocked up.

As you can see, the wishbone is bent to wrap under the seat, keeping factory headroom in the truck. Features a SuperPivot from SD to alleviate binding.
The front crossmember is SD 180° bent tubing and 2 peices of SD 90° offset bent tubing welded together. They pass over the frame and are welded to the flat areas on top of the 4link hangers I made, adding additional strength.
The piece over the diff is 2 pieces of SD 45° bent tubing welded together, I was going to make it one piece but couldnt fit it in the mill to cope it for the axle. These pieces are strengthened with gussets that wrap around the axle tube (you can see them in later pics). You could go with a SD diff bracket here but it would intrude into the cabin a lot more.
Notch is SD Blazer Crooked notch.
Shock mounts are SD sideways shock mounts on SD bridge bar.

Also not shown are the additional sections of tubing running diagonal from the crossmember to the frame to keep the wishbone from pulling it off, and the new gastank support made from 1.25" tubing, you can't use the stock one in that condition, you'll lose your gastank somewhere down the street.

Here are pics of the seat so you can see how it clears. You can see the bend in both pics wrapping under the seat, and with the front tabs 2" higher than the sheetmetal theyre still another 1.5" under the seatpan.

Here is the sheetmetal work, the rear floor is raised 1.5", cut and bent like Rickys to transition into the old floor nicely. Because of the way I cut the old sheetmetal I was able to reuse most of it as one piece, saves a lot of extra work.
The front was a lot more complicated, but still completed with simple hand tools and a vise. The driveshaft tunnel was slip-rolled at SD though, a bit taller than the off-the-shelf tunnel. Factory seat belt panel was reused, its reinforced underneath. The forward sections were cut out just to weld the components underneath.
Seam sealed with Transtar automotive brush on sealer, I wouldnt use anything else!

A couple finished pics after the test drive.

Its dark but you can spot the wrap-around axle gussets for the diff bar, and also a Cherry Bomb Turbo muffler, these things cost $20 at PepBoys and are extremely small, easy to fit anywhere. They are available for $30 shipped on eBay if you can't find them locally. They don't have much sound to them though, just a tiny bit louder than factory.

2nd pic shows the front hanger gusset, Slam RE6s, and things painted stupid colors because thats what was on the shelf.

Tank setup:

8 gal 8 port tank from SD with SD Flame brackets on one end and Holy Hole on the other, powdercoated red. Turned out perfect for seat clearance but it was mainly used because its an old demo tank from ITB 05.
2 Viair 480s from Airlift with 175 pressure switch.
8 3/8" SMC valves with SD tapped tees feeding KP gauges.
Everythings pushed really tight to the side for storage, relays are behind the jack panel.

And of course, stock seat height. You can't even tell the floor was raised under the carpet because of the slant, mad nice.

And finished pics.. 11.5" of lift at the back, not bad for 6" bags.

Tires hit inner fenders but lays y-pipe and crossmembers underneath. 25" tall tires, rear pinch weld in wheelwell was pie-cut and folded over, otherwise it would sit an inch taller in the back.

There you have it..I tried to use as many off the shelf SD parts as possible to show what could be done, and hopefully the guys out there with 4-doors can use it as an example to build their own trucks. Let me know what you think.. ;)
Thats awesome, i couldnt really tell from the pics but are the valves dumping outside?
Ah yes, the valves are dumped externally. Also there is a ball valve attached to the bottom port and mounted on the frame rail to drain the tank, I didnt take pics of that either heh
looking at the finished pictures.. when the truck is at full height, it would completly fool me thats its a bagged truck
good work Dave!

Yeah, looks stock, except for the SD arms. lol, i love it i would rock it just like that. Maybe just get some nicer factory wheels and finish laying it out.
Damn! You guys never cease to amaze me when it comes to your bag installs! Beautiful set up, clean as hell. Awesome work guys, makes me wanna bag my DD Blazer now. lol

I completely agree. It is definately gonna catch some people off guard. Nice work.
just roll up to a show, and bam, lay that bisch out! Cool! How long has it been done? Is there any frame left, or did Jerid already drag it off?
