i have an 84 s10 with a 91 2.5L in it and its back firein threw the throttle body and when it does it dies and want crank back for 20 to 30 min.

i put knew plugs plug wires and and fuel pump in it. the motor is suppose to be a freshley built motor when i got the truck i had to put the distribitor in it and not sure if i time the it right.

when i dropped it in i top dead center the number one piston and acording to the chilton manual i have it said the rotor button and number one plug faced to the firewall. if any one could help wid this prob it would be greatly apreciated

Distributor can face anyway depending upon how it is dropped in.

If it is acting like that check the ICM and P/U coil or Hall Effect Switch....

Might also check into the fuel system if that doesnt pan out.

how do i go about checkin the icm?

Pull it and take it to the parts store and get it checked, several times if you can...
