ok, so christmas is coming up, and shortly thereafter il be turning sixteen. i got a 95 s10 4 cylinder ext cab for 400 bucks a few months ago(in really good condition i might add) anyway, the headunit on it is broken, (volume knob wont do anything), so i definatly need a new one. but i also want to mildly upgrade the sound in the truck without spending a million dollars ( under 300 not including head unit) i have never done any audio in cars before, so i have no idea what im doing, but im a quick learner so bear with me here. wondering what you guys think would be a good setup to just sound all around better ( dont need(or want) it to shake the glass out). any help would be great. thanks in advance

get u a pioneer head unit(4000 series or better) slap u a walmart special sony explode 12 in a square box, with a 300w amp, and order u some memphis componets for the doors. be looking at $200 for headunit, $150? for sub and box, amp is prolly close to the same, and componets will run u about $150. thats $650 in all at the most, but u will be happy u spent the extra on the compnet set.

i bought one of those boxes from walmart once. I put some more screws threw it and also sealed it, sounds great in my blazer with a pioneer in there.

component set for up front 99.99 -- http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_27340_RE+Audio+RE6.5C.html

amplifier 124.99 -- http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11791_Kenwood+KAC-8404.html

subwoofer 124.99 -- http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_23444_Rockford+Fosgate+R1L-1X12.html

total is 349.97, a little over the 300 mark, plus ~ another 50 bucks for the wiring (4 ga install kit plus an extra set of rca's [need one run for the front out, and one run for the sub out]), so should be doable for around 400 bucks, just save a little more.
then all you'll need is to look local for the wiring.

Run the component set off of the A side channels and bridge the B side channels for the subwoofer.

you could go cheap and get some kicker stuff...kicker comp or cvt sub, kx300.1 amp (hifisoundconnection.com), kicker amp kit, ds door and dash speakers. i dont know if youd be able to do a complete one for under 300 though...ill get some links later today, just give me a little time

sony = epic fail! shop around for good deals. i prefer onlinecarstero.com lots of good deals. just read reviews of the products. i would focus on the head unit and replacing your factory speakers before looking into a sub and amp.

i concur here, also for a head unit i would go with a Kenwood Excellon KDC-x794 or KDC-x994, both are basicaly the same, except the x994 has bluetooth, I personally have the x994 and it is an amazing unit for the price, i never use the radio or CD functions hardly, i have an 8gig flash drive plugged into it with over 1000 songs at my disposal.

also for a component set im going to recomend these. $50
SoundStream SC-6T 6.5" 80 Watts Arachnid Series Component System

for a subwoofer $55

Subwoofer enclosure $23
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=260-636

for an amp (subwoofer) $90 shipped
http://cgi.ebay.com/US-Acoustics-US...6727098?pt=Car_Amplifiers&hash=item2a083b3fba

this leaves you with about $80 for wire and other unforeseen costs

here is a good wire kit and it is big enough to allow you to expand later if you wish

i know it takes a lot of your budget for that, but ive heard some good things about these, itd be plenty loud enough for what you want id say.

these will add some sound and be pretty cheap (these are the dash speakers btw)

same series as the dash, but for the doors

you'll also need an amp/rcas/power wires, but id look on ebay for those. you'll need 400w rms at 2 ohms for that sub, and probably like 10-15 feet 2 channel rcas depending on where your amp is mounted. i wouldnt think youd necessarily need to amp the door speakers if youre doing an entry level system. if you get them low powered enough, the deck will suffice, but of course you get what you pay for in terms of sound quality. good luck with it all man!

i know that there is a wire that i was told goes to the amp (once again i dont know much about audio in cars, lol) i dont know what the rating on it is, since the truck is about three hours away from me now, but il check in a few days. the guy gave me a bunch of fuses when i bought it, but ive been too busy fixing it that i havent really bothered with anything on the inside yet

yup there will be 3 wires that are input into the amp, one is the power (runs from battery to 12v+ on amp), one is remote (runs from blue wire on back of deck to remote connect on amp), and the last one is the rcas (left and right signal wire that plugs into the white and red subwoofer plug in back of the deck, and runs to the corresponding place on the amp). then there are 3 wires that run out of the amp, one is the ground (from gnd of amp to a cleaned metal part of chassy), and the other two are the speaker + and - (from + and - on amp to the red and black plugs on side of amp box). i hope that helps and is as non confusing as possible. also the fuse goes on the power wire within 18 inches from the battery. good luck with it man!

^If I could just make one quick correction, it's actually a blue wire with a white stripe on the back of the headunit. The solid blue wire is the power antenna, you want the remore wire, which is blue with a white stripe.
