[97 S-10 on 18's]

Are barrel connectors ok to use to splice 2 sets of 4 guage power wire together? I have alot (pre cut) and want to change my 8 to 4 cause the 4 is starting to melt cause its close to the exhaust I guess. The cables going in the firewall on the pass. side in factory grommet an is still getting burned, any ideas? Is the barrel ok to lay on the floor or should it be insulated? Im still new to all this so any help will be appreciated. Sorry for 2 questions at once, Thanks for any help.

One solid piece of wire would be "better", but a barrel should work just fine. And it MUST be insulated! If you lay it on the floor uninsulated it would be just like laying a bare wire there, one big short.

it would be better juts to stick the ends together and solder the bitches together

Ok thanks for the help, now does anyone have any ideas where else to run the cable without it getting burned? I am running it through the firewall on the passenger side into a factory grommet. I had two cables and one already caught fire while I was putting gas, thats a good way to get a scare. Thanks in advance for any help.

there's a hole in the drivers side footwell, right behind the e-brake, that you could try. not sure excctly how big it is, but i used it when i ran the wires for my fog lights.
