I did a search so I know some guys on here are using it, and that's what my engine came with (168 teeth). I have to buy a mini starter, so if I should change to the 153 now is the time. Any drawbacks to the 168? If not, I'm sticking with what came on the engine!

Thanks all -- the help I've gotten on here has made getting ready for this swap much easier and already saved me a TON on money!

On pages 3-16 & 3-17 it says that the engines pictured must be changed to the 153 tooth flexplate, and on page 3-7 it says the starter for the 168 tooth flywheel will not fit -- I was just wondering if there were any real reason for this?

just run a gear reduction starter, go to your local parts place and ask for a starter for a 95 suburban and of course ask for the gear reduction starter, is small and light(if this is a sb swap)

if i remember correctly the 168 tooth flexplate uses a more bigger starter there for less room to workwith. and that is about the only thing i even used out of the jtr book.
