(Didn’t really know where to post this since I couldn’t find a dedicated A/C section) I have a 96’ Single cab S10 and when I turn on my air, I can only get hot air, even if the dials are turned onto max ac and cold. Would it be a switch deal since my ac compressor doesn’t even kick on?

It won't vent outside air on max ac, that opens the recirculation door. If it's blowing hot with it turned all the way cold and it's cold outside, it's probably the blend door actuator. AC compressor not coming on has already been covered.

You need to take it to a shop that can hook up a set of A/C gauges to tell you what the pressure in the system is. If it's low on refrigerant the system has a low pressure cut off switch that prevents the compressor coming on and hurting itself because the refrigerant also has oil in it that lubricates the system. If it did come on w/o enough to lubricate properly the compressor would burn out the bearings inside. On that era truck the compressors develop leaks as they age. Also on that era truck if it came with A/C it doesn't have much of ventilation system. They're pretty much either heat or A/C is on.
They don't really have vents like older vehicles did. About all you can do is crack a window if you want outside air.
