2002 zr-2 just started noticing this weekend bc it was time for ac where i live. when accelerating and going up hills the ac almost stops blowing, guessing this could be a vacuum leak? dont even know where to start. all the lines i see up top look fine. i am also exsperancing over heating issues while at high rpm, like going up the mountain. dont think that has anything to do with ac though but thought id mention it.

Sounds like it's time for some housekeeping. Make sure there is no debris behind the grill, and between the condenser and radiator. When's the last time you did any cooling system maintenance?

i just got this truck a few months ago, 110,000 miles so its new to me, but from what i was told and i can see, it has a brand new radiator, system has been flushed and re filled with new coolant and it looks clean. i have not run a test on coolant levels? could that be it? i thought when the air pressure changed blowing at you meant there was a vacuum leak... as far as over heating some i figured clutch fan maybe?

I've stared taking Racer X advice...I think it was him...when you change the pump or radiator...clutch fan and thermostat gets changed also. I had an overheat problem in the mountains and after changing things out..all is good.

cool!!! well, i kinda want to keep this thing stock so know i need to decide on going back with a clutch fan or going electric. thermostat is easy fix. any ideas on air flow situation ?

Not a fan...no pun intended, of electric fans. They do work if you do everything right, but the factory fan works without all of the grief.....just my .02

i hear ya man, i did it on my 2.2l and it seems to be more of a pain in the *** for the outcome i got.. sure it made the motor sound a little different but.....

On an 02 it isn't uncommon for the vacuum reservoir to get unplugged. Usually people not familiar with late S10's can't find the reservoir because it is hidden between the inner and outer fender behind the ABS pump, so they put a screw in the loose hose to stop it from leaking. Works fine except when you need to accelerate for long periods, like climbing long hills or mountain passes. The lack of any storage cause decreased vacuum to the HVAC system, resulting in the symptoms you describe.
Look around between the master cylinder for the hoses and check for cracks or leaks and that the hose to the reservoir nipple is connected. You may need a mirror and a flashlight to find the nipple. In some cases they also be broken off.

Ditto on the vacuum line to the vacuum reservoir getting unplugged or that the underhood vacuum hoses have rotted and sprung a leak. Beyond convenience of having the HVAC vacuum actuators work, your vacuum lines also are responsible for engaging the front axle for 4wd. If you haven't done so, it is worth checking all of them and perhaps replacing them. The Hoses on the inside of the passenger compartment are more durable and seldom leak.

You should definitely check the vacuum line that oldeerslayer pointed out. This comes up fairly frequently in the forums, usually under the subject line "where does this hose go", because the hose comes loose and the connection isn't obvious. The nipple he mentioned is very short and is completely hidden under the ABS manifold. You can feel it if you poke around with your fingers, but because it's so short it feels like the end of a bolt.

Here's an overhead pic of the offending hose with the brake manifold still in place, took me a while to find the connection too.

I had this same problem with my '99 Dodge Ram 1500. The problem was with a leaking vacuum stop valve. Easy fix under the hood that cost under $2.00.
