The book said for step 1, to torque the head bolts to 43 foot pounds for the short bolts, and 46 foot pounds for the long ones, plus an addissional 90 degrees for step 2. I dont get the step 2 part, because 90 degreese of a turn more, seems like way to much, because i turned the bolts about 1/4 turn more which felt like something would brake if i went past a 1/4 turn more. please advise

Those bolts are designed to stretch. If you are doing it right I doubt you'll break them.

a 1/4 turn is 90degrees
