Hello my s10 peoples. I am new to the s10 world and forums I just got a 2000 s10 4.3 auto. I’ve searched a helluva lot on a couple different s10 forums and I haven’t found anything on this topic so here I shall ask lol. My air conditioning only works on 3 and 4 and when on Either one it makes a terrible grinding noise coming from under the dash on the passenger side ( atleast it sounds like its coming from there ). Sometimes on 3 it doesn’t make the grinding noise but the blower fan is very noisey and that in and of itself is annoying. My ac blows cold on 3 and 4 despite the noise but when it makes the grinding noise it’s loud and violent like it sounds like my truck is being ripped in half lol. The only thing I can find that I think it could be is the ac compressor or clutch thing but I’m not very knowledgeable on this subject at all so please helppp!

Replace the bad blower fan first. Then if you still have a noise you will be able to narrow it down.

X2 on the blower motor. Your description of where the noise is coming from leads us right to it.
If it was the compressor/clutch the noise would be coming from under the hood, not the passenger side dash.

Before spending money, there should be a sticker on the center of the blower motor, on the engine compartment side. Peel this back and stick a few drops of 3 in 1 oil in there. Usually this will make it spin quiet again. Better to remove it first, that way you can put it cage side down so the oil penetrates well.
