hey guys. i have a question. i have a 10in alpine type s. what should the EXTERIOR box dimensions be? i'm mainly looking for mounting depth. please give me your suggestions. also, CAN I USE 1/2 IN. WOOD??? IT IS VERY DENSE WOOD. PRETTY STURDY STUFF. my current box is 1/2in.

my calculations:
top- 6.75in. ????? (using 1/2in. wood. will this work? can it be smaller?)
bottom- 8in.
width- 22in.
height- 12.25in.

What is the recommended size box from Alpine.

You can figure out by. LxWxH / 1728 and that would give you the cubic feet for the inside...maybe someone can explain that better cause mines not to good

The calculators there are VERY handy and will give you exactly what you need.

I wouldn't go with 1/2" wood. 5/8 is alright, 3/4 would be best. My box for my 8 inch sub (getting 85 rms) is 1/2 inch with a double layer face and braces through out. If you did something like that you could get away with 1/2 inch. I have a brace every 8 inches or so, and when you double up on the face you can cut the hole in the outter piece larger than your sub so it is flush mounted. Like in this pic --> http://images.cardomain.com/member_img_b/260000-260999/260326_11_full.jpg my sub is mounted.

You really want to avoid flex at all costs. Any decent sized span will flex and needs bracing.
