first off this is my very first forum visit and account. Usually google has lead me right, not this time. 99 s10 2.2l 260k this morning ran fine came to a stop sign and upon acceleration got some sputter, powered through that. Work was 3 mins away. When i parked at worked sounded like my ac compersor was short cycling. End of the day I got to leave and in reverse I get a horrible sputter like it’s one or two cylinders. Put in OD like every day and same miss/sputter. During the bad time there is no flashing CEL. Manually shift to 2nd and it runs like normal. The same in 1st. Revs all the way up. Put it up in 3rd and OD won’t pull its weight. Park and neutral rev to limiter like they should. Any and all tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully I did this right lol

Ya all basic stuff has been done recently. It runs fine In park neutral and when i manually shift it to first and second. As soon as I put it in third it cuts out and bogs. Placing it in the OD selection cuts and bogs also.

I thought coil pack as well as that is how it feels but as there was no miss in 1,2 I looked past a coil. TPS and IAC where both replaced less than 10K I cleaned TB at that time. I went and got a scanner today. Will be back at the truck tomorrow to check and run all codes. No smoke all the time, just on first start of the day, but I think that is ring smoke with the mileage. Maybe will pick up a new belt and try that also. I will post tomorrow with all codes. Thank u for your time

Just stoped by and ran the codes I got P0300, P0122,P0125. I picked up a decent scan tool with live data readings but I really didn’t know what I was looking at. Did some quick search on the 0125 code. Temp sensors are cheap enough I may as well try them. Maybe still the belt? Wonder if I got a faulty TPS seeing as that code is still there.

I agree. I had no idea what I was looking at and was in a hurry I just wanted to get a quick look at the codes. I will be back tomorrow and try and do some full understanding of what all the number and letters mean lol.

Engine coolant temperature sensor controls
fuel delivery
torque convertor clutch the ignition control
evap canister purge valve
idle air control valve
I would check that sensor out. Make sure connector is not corroded and wiring looks ok. Test sensor. Here is a tech on how to.
Sounds like that possibly could cause your problems.

All the coolant temps seems to be normal. But looking at the live data my TPS only gets signal in park neutral second and first. If I shift to Rev or drive I get 0 reading on the tps. Figure I’ll go get a new one and try it

so a new tps yielded the same live data to reading 0 in Rev Neutral OD and Third. 1st and 2nd get tps data. Replaced the VSS as it was less than 20 bucks. Still same problems. My AC compressor is short cycling when I put it in reverse or drive. Not sure why but it has something to do with the main issue. I’m at a loss this is well above me on the mechanical totem pole.

I start with a vacuum lines though, check for any cracks or crumbling lines and replace go to Napa they have the cheapest in bulk if you need to replace them. I think there's one vacuum line that's acceptable to crumbling the most and that's the one to the right near the firewall on top of the engine near the fuse box and it has a 3-way t I believe and then it connects down where you can't see it but there's a little tiny nipple under the right fender, I don't know if that could be the cause of the issue if it is bad but it's a possibility.
