hey joe, lets give it a go...
whats wrong with your truck
Thanks for your offer to help.
I have a problem with my pickup it's a on and off no start problem. At first it stop running so I sprayed starting fluid into the throttle body and it started temporarily but wouldn't stay running. Rented a fuel pump pressure test from auto zone. It read 0 with key on are trying to start it. As suggested on YouTube I tried different things such as checking fuse and relay, ground wire at the fuel pump sanding to bare metal to the frame. I prematurely replaced the fuel pump and filter and the truck fired right up but after 5 days it quit again. I let it set for a day checked the fuel pressure and it read 0 but would start. Turn it off it wouldn't start till it set for an hour or so.
Someone suggested to check the pump fuel regulator. That was my next step but I can't find it or how to check it or remove it.
Can you shed some light on my problem?
Thanks, Joe

If the pressure tester is reading 0 and it starts at all the tester isn't on properly or faulty. Under 50psi a 4.3 will not start. Period. It may not have been on quite tight enough. Or try another tester. To test the regulator with the key on engine off you need a reading with a new pump of 60psi or it's faulty. Then it should hold around 55 for a few minutes. If it's not holding, the regulator is leaking. Or you have a leaking injector or tube inside the intake. Regulator leaks are somewhat common and are a fairly easy fix, but do require removing the upper intake. A regulator is around $30 up. Get new gaskets for the upper intake when you get the regulator. Upper plenum gaskets are $10-20. This $9.50 set from Rockauto includes all the gaskets you'll encounter. Not all sets have the misc smaller ones.

Thanks for the help and the link provided.
I'll get a different pressure tester and check it again
but will probably go check the regulator too.
Is it possible that the new fuel pump could be defective?
