Hello all. I have a 97 S10 and doing a v8 swap in it from the 2.2l 4cylinder. How many amps should the alternator be with the bigger sbc motor? The 2.2l had a 105 amp alternator.

Also can I use the original A/C system or do I need to swap it out?

I'm not 100% But If the pulley could be lined up with the compressor attached to the v-8 accy bracket I think it would be ok. Also I put Electric Fans in my 1995 2.2l. You will need a "Bigger" Alternator, I got one from Summit Racing, 165 amp "Powermaster" Brand. I had problems with the stock alternator after the efans, and since you will need them also...
Good Luck,
Scott

What engine and tranny are you dropping into your truck? Basic information is helpful to get meaningful replies. Also, check out the V8 Swap sub forum - lots of good material there, and likely to answer a lot of your questions.

Get the swap done first. Worry about peripherals after you have it running and driving. You will need to change at least the A/C compressor. I know of no bracket that exists to use your 2.2 compressor on any V8. If you're a top notch fabricator it may be possible to make one.
