'96 SS control arms vs other ZQ8 arms.

The control arms on my SS use a push thru type of bump stop. I'm curious if all ZQ8 control arms are like this, of if it was just a design change to a bolt on bump stop at some point. I just bought a set of Energy Suspension push thru bump stops, and of course now I find out that a couple of my control arms bushings are on their last legs. I guess the bottom line is...replace or rebuild the control arms.

my 2000 xtreme bump stop bolts on
EDIT: thats the lower arm i am talking about
i think i made a thread about it a couple months back... might get those in here in a few hours actually
edit: i didnt have time. ha
No such thing as a ZQ8 control arm. Other than the bump stop, they are the same part as any other 2wd S10.

i never looked at my new $15 dorman replacement arm to see if the bump stop mounting options are the same as factory.. it said it fit so i just bought it.
i suppose worst case scenario i might need to drill a hole...

i have these: Energy Suspension 9.9101G
still debating how much to trim off the top, if any
On Rockauto the Energy Suspension pull thru ones say they fit base model RWD and SS, all years. All other RWD are bolt on.
ENERGY SUSPENSION 39102G {3.9102G, 3-9102G} Black; Control Arm Bump Stop Set Performance Polyurethane; Pack of 2 Info
FitsFront; RWD; Base Model; LS Model; Pull Thru Style; H-1.25 in.; L-1.5 in.; W-1-9/16 in.
orFront; SS Model; Pull Thru Style; H-1.25 in.; L-1.5 in.; W-1-9/16 in.
So it appears the SS is a different lower control arm than most, except the really cheap base trucks. But I didn't see that hole mentioned in RWD replacement control arms.

Well...there kinda is. My SS is the only one I've seen with the push thru bump stop. I realize the actual control arm is the same...just a different style of mount for the bump stop.
There are bump stops on both my control arms. The bolt on one that can be seen on the lower arm and the pull through type on the under side of the upper arm. Are you saying your truck has a pull through type on the lower arm?

you are talking about a 2wd model, correct?
thanks

The stops are on the lower arms.
@needawheel Yeah, I didn't realize it either until I rebuilt mine a few years ago. It contacts the frame when the suspension is fully extended.

Interesting. Mines a 2003 and definitely the bolt in style. I wonder when they changed types?

well would ya look at that:
obviously he has a bit more install room than most...
The control arms on my SS use a push thru type of bump stop.
ive never seen that on any s10 from 1984 through the colorado chassis
i wonder if the upper bump stop can be pushed or pulled in with the arm still attached...

My '97 SS had bolt in bump stops on my lowers . Never even looked at the uppers for the pull through shown in the video. I have some tubular uppers now with an adjustable stop.
does anybody know how tall the front lower bump stop should be? mine is a 2000 xtreme 4.3l
i have these: Energy Suspension 9.9101G
basically it is a cut-to-fit bump stop
i suppose i have a few pairs laying around and could try different heights and report back too

These are almost identical to OEM ZQ8, and should be a lot smoother than the polyurethane bump stops: SPC 95339 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015H7C7Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

If you're messing with a bunch of non-stock parts, proper bump stop height can be figured out by removing the spring and cycling the suspension with the wheel & tire installed.

i am all original, sans the bilstein zq8 front shocks, lower bump stops, and 225/60r16 tires
i plan to just throw the ones i have on as-is and trim em down if needed because i canT < edited to say i canT instead of can > find those oem-exact fits locally to compare and measure. slightly taller bump stops will probably help more than hurt considering its 20+yrs old
