I started this build about 3 years ago and just it ended up on the back burner, behind the other s10s, k10s and airboats. But now I have time so I pulled it back out to start up on it again.

It started out as a 1.9l Isuzu in-line 4 with a 5 speed. No brake booster or power steering from the factory. I had a buddy that raced dirt oval tracks, they built and used 305’s and had one in a k10 that I purchased off of him. It’s an 86’ block with flat top pistons, not exactly sure on what camshaft it has but it’s lopes and dances all around like an animal. Edelbrock eps dual plane intake with a Holley AED 750 double pumper, manual secondaries carb.

Its got 416 cast heads with 58cc combustion chambers. Not sure if it has work done to them or not, just haven’t had to pull it apart to find out. My memory is a little fuzzy after 4 years, but the fact that they race dirt oval track makes me lean towards there being work done to them.

I had a th400 2wd tranny laying around left over from another project. I put a b&m deep tranny pan, and a b&m 2500 stall converter. Bought I believe it was a 6” Denny’s driveshaft

I bought a 1966 ford bronco Ford 9” rear end off a buddy for $200. It’s 56” wide so it was roughly about 1 1/2” wider than the axle that came out of it.

So here’s what I found to be interesting. With a Sbc, th400, ford 9” axle, I was able to use my factory driveshaft. I used a th400/s10 bastard u-joint for the front of the driveshaft, and a s10/Ford 9” u-joint for the rear.

I put 3” blocks in the rear, and left the stock 1.9l coil springs up front. I just have it on roll around 20’s on the rear off of a dodge 1500, and factory rims. I have a set of c5 z06 rims and tires off of my mother’s c5, i know I need 2 1/4” spacers for the front. If the factory axle was 54 1/2” and my ford 9” is 56” what thickness 5x4.5 x 5x4.75 wheel spacers/adapters do you think I should need for the rear?

I gotta get a shifter, and bolt the seats down, build a better crossmember for the tranny, and weld on the other leaf spring pad for now. And then I’ll start on bagging it and possibly a bodydrop. But I figured I’d share and post as I go! And thank you for any info.

as cool and unique as that sounds, Id probably restore this one. I have never heard of this model. maybe post up the vin and RPO codes, I'd be interested in doing some research on it. I'd be inclined to trade you another 1st gen to build to what you want, that way if yours turns out to be something greater than what is known, as stated, id be interested in restoring it.

Yeah, according to my research, apparently these models were some special model made specifically for california. But the truck was bought new by my friends grandpa in Orlando back in the day. Which i thought was a little weird.

I've got the truck running and driving around the yard now. She's gonna be fun for sure. And i know the holley is a little too big for this engine, but i only have 750 double pumpers, about 6 of them lol. I'm gonna end up trading one of my buddies one of them for a holley 650cfm.
