Not to be a negative nancy, but are you sure?

I can't see any of the 8.5 telltales and looks like a 7.5 to me.

Take a close look and send it back if they claimed it was an 8.5 and it isn't. Most junkyards aren't verifying what they have and using a computer system that is known to misidentify 8.5" rears from S10/Blazers.

This eBay ad has some great picture showing the difference:

Looks like the same one I have laying in my garage... another project that needs completing. Nothing wrong with a 7.5, there is a thread on here that can help you build one pretty strong.

That's a $100 Blazer rear axle. Not a $5-800 8.6". Actually it's pretty clean. Might be worth $125.
All S10 8.5's have a reduction in the axle tube size just outside the center section and they all have the big tits on the bottom of the differential housing.

Yup 100% not an 8.6, was my first thought when looking at the picture before scrolling down through the comments.

Still may be useful because it has discs which is a nice little upgrade over stock drums. Strength wise an 8.5/8.6 isn't really that much stronger than a 7.5 anyway. Most LS builds on street tires won't break a 7.5, it doesn't really become a problem until trans brake launching on slicks.
