I have a 350 swapped 1st gen S10 with a 700r4 transmission, it has the plug on the side of the trans for the torque converter lockup and when its plugged in once it hits 4th gear it gets really sluggish and loses pretty much all power. So I unplugged it and now it drives fine does anyone know why I have to go through the troubles of having this, like is there a fix I know you can buy a switch but why do I need a switch I've never owned one that needed it. And right now it seems like driving it unplugged is hurting the trans.

The lockup solenoid is wired through the 4th gear pressure switch on the valve body. When it hits 4th, it triggers the solenoid. There are pressure switches that take higher pressure to close the contact. But it is a trial and error process. Superior and TCI sell kits to make it work like you want. The tci uses vacuum.
