31 ford absorbed an older carb type 4.3 and 700r4 with zero headaches, minus radiator. But thats a very small space 4 radiator to start with.

Im planning to r/r an old 48 chevy ambulance, it has a 267 olds engine now that someone installed 40 yrs ago.

I plan on using a 4.3

Nice project. Long ago I had a '48 Pontiac Silver Streak w/ the flathead straight 8 & the Slush-o-Matic tranny. It wasn't too quick off the line , but it was a veritable rolling inertia-mobile once you got all that mass moving. The thing was a tank, and the back seat was like a full size sofa.

Here's a photo of the Pontiac, for reference - it's not mine, but basically identical (and nicer). Not surprisingly, it has really similar body lines to the '48 Chevy.
