Definitely no turning back! 😎

General update:

What went well over the last week:
  • Actual engine and trans install went well with a couple of test fitments. See issues below.
  • QFS fuel pump installed and -6AN lines installed to Corvette fuel filter/regulator.
  • Racetronix fuel pump harness installed – truly plug and play as advertised.
  • Radiator install into core support. Ready to go – no issues.
  • Headers seem to fit very well. Need to mess with final engine adjustments before I can confirm. Main concern is the ability to add V-Bands to the collector.
  • Engine compartment cleanup was simple. This was already very clean. Just needed some pressure washing and was good to go.

What did not go as planned - but not really surprised:
  • Hooker motor mounts. Quality seems fine, but the engine sits high and back (common issue). Would be great to move ½” forward and down ½ - ¾”. I will most likely order and try a set of the Current Performance mounts or Dirty Dingo Blazer specific mounts - TBD. The Hooker mounts will be sold.
  • Hooker transmission cross member. WILL NOT work on this Blazer due to frame variations. I will be selling this mount. I will be ordering the Current performance part # RCS10B-700 as a replacement part. Currently out of stock and I need to see when they will have them.
  • Not surprised, but valve covers are VERY close to the brake booster. If I can get some adjustment out of different motor mounts, this should be easy to resolve.
  • Need to wait to install the Holley front accessory drive kit. Won’t be able to get headers in place with the accessories installed. No big deal.

It will be a few weeks before anything else happens. I am out of $ for a while and need to recover.

Talked to the team over at Dirty Dingo and he did confirm that their Blazer specific motor mounts are exactly what I need to have the engine sit correctly. $145 for the powder coated mounts. Will order within the next week or so. No fun, but easy enough to lift the engine and swap them out.

For folks that don't know, the 2 door 2wd Blazers have an elevated motor mount perch as highlighted below. The Hooker mounts are great, but they sit the engine too high. I will sell these mounts and the Hooker transmission crossmember here on the forum.

Slowly plodding forward... Glad everything is new and clean! 🤪

What info were you able to get from Dirty Dingo? I reached out to them about the Blazer mounts and got very little info back. Wondering what the height difference is between the two before I lay down the cash for another set of mounts that don’t make a difference.

I actually called talked to them yesterday and they confirmed that these are much shorter than the standard S10 mounts and will drop the engine down about an inch or so and give greater ability to move the mounts forward and back. I did not get specific measurement details, but I told him about the build and he said that these are exactly I need. These are specific to the 2WD, 2-door Blazers only. In my case, if I can get down 3/4" and forward 1/4-1/2", it would be perfect.

Their website DOES NOT show the correct photos (obviously - below) of the Blazer mounts and I pointed this out to him. He said he will get this resolved.

I will get these ordered next week and plan to install them the weekend after the Easter weekend. Will post an update when done. I will also be going with a G-Force transmission mount.

That's that I used, worked well. I did change the mounts to poly inserts.

Nice! Thanks - good to know. I am pretty confident that this will solve my problem. I will check into the poly inserts as well. I should have done more research on this before I bought the Hooker mounts.

Once I get these and the new crossmember in their final places, I can make some pretty good progress on the rest of the big stuff (accessories, exhaust, core support, harness, etc.). It is all of the small stuff that will add the extra down-time.

Thanks for the info. My steering shaft has a hard hit to the #5 exhaust primary, and I believe a shorter mount would resolve that. It will also clear up a hit on the passenger side floor pinch weld.

Also - Not sure if you have the Hooker steering shaft. Not cheap, but this does save a LOT of room in the header/frame area.

I think @Harley had a few sets made...maybe he'll pop in.
Mine are a 1/2" lower. Works well with the GM Hot Rod pan because it's about an 1/8 to 1/4 in above the cross member.

I have one set, currently. It's the prototype set I made on the mill at the workshop when I came up with the design and used on my Blazer without issue for many miles. They're freshly powdercoated because I had a batch of parts going in after I swapped my laser cut set on. If someone from the forum were interested I'd sell them for $100.
