Hello,
I just bought a 2000 xtreme for my son who is turning 16. I am having trouble with the door locks they lock as soon as you turn the key to on. Truck is still in park not running and they lock.. I tried to do the programing this the pull turn forward turn key on 2 times. That does nothing. I was working with my son doing all the new to you used car stuff today fluid changes, plugs and wires. If you put the key to on then go to the engine if the door closes you are locked out of the truck.

Any help would be great

If you're locked out you can take the title to a Chevy dealer and they can make you a key from the vin. It'll be a brand new not worn down key, better than a hardware store copy of a used key.
As far as the doors locking prematurely. That could be caused by a number of stuck relays or an issue with the BCM.
Unfortunately the relays are in the body relay block behind the headlight switch. You need to drop the lower hush panel and reach up in there to take it down and release it. Then remove the cover to access it. Have fun.
The 1st post on this thread explains how to get it out:
Here's the 2000 door lock wiring diagram. Open it in a new window and click on that to see it full size. it's big.

Thank you for the idea's but I pulled the door panel to see what was going on. I found a mess, someone in the past 20 years put a aftermarket door pull on the lock and on the power windows. I removed it and the speaker wire they used to power them.

AAA will come give you keys if you have AAA
Correction - AAA, for verified members, will cover the cost of an approved locksmith for emergency lockout service (coverage of one incident per year). The reimbursement/ coverage amount depends on the policy you have. They do not "give you a key".

What?

your 'correction' isnt even correct.
most people who have aaa dont know they can burn a service call and get free keys. this is good AND CORRECT advice for the OP because you can oftentimes buy AAA for less than the cost of one key.
the aaa locksmith finds the key-code based on the vin, cuts the keys, programs the keys, GIVES YOU THE KEYS and leaves.
i get 4 calls per 12 mos and the 12 month cost is less than one key... guy cut/programmed 2 keys on one call for me.

typical itchy. half of your posts are just re-stating what someone else just typed and trying to start sht about it.
I stand by my reply to your initial post ("AAA will come give you keys if you have AAA "). AAA does not give you a key. They cover (w/ a $ limit per call) a certified locksmith who furnish lockout services, whatever may be needed and/ or is capable of providing. And, admittedly, I erred on the number of covered calls per year.

But, the OP's thread isn't about the options of what to do if locked, out nor the features of AAA membership, but rather about how to fix a problem with the weird locking of his truck.

No need to be nasty...
it occurs over and over again... why you choose to censor that fact is beyond me...
did he cry?
aaa gives you keys. itchy wants to argue.
guy is still arguing.
hey itchy the first post wasnt clear if he was locked out or not. oldeerslayer read it the same way: potential lockout. good advice was given. no need to argue about literally everything

And yet here you are stirring the pot. Enough.

It cost me $5 for a key from the dealer. Can't join AAA for that amount.
a yr2000 chipped key though? they are $100 or so a pop here...especially at the dealer.
the old style chipless keys are cheap, certainly

if you tell aaa you lost your key, broke your key, etc they will send a mobile locksmith and he will give you new keys. it only costs you one of your allotted service calls. by the time you get a 2000ish-2010ish key made you may as well join aaa. thats my piece of great advice.
youre all welcome.
especially you itchy.
