i'm looking to put a cam, intake mani, valve springs, carb, and headers on my '82 2.8. My problem is the smallest carb i can find is a 390cfm. about 120-140 too much. so, if anyone knows where to find a 250-290 cfm carb, i would greatly appreciate it. I really want to keep the 2.8 for weight reasons.

Go 4 BBL....:) ...I did...Edelbrock makes a sweet 4 BBL intake and then you can use a 390 cfm carb.....Holley part number 8007. Edelbrock Intake part numbers are...Edelbrock part # base 3785, top 3789

Edelbrock aluminum 4 bbl. intake manifold for Chevrolet V-6 2.8L 82-85 longitudinal-mount engine. Models are light duty pickup truck S-10 S-15 Blazer & Jimmy 82-84 Camaro & Firebird & AMC Jeep Cherokee. Holley carb bolt flange. Carter AFB & Edelbrock 4 bbl's will also fit.
Hope that helps...

OKOK...I got another idea......If you are going to rebuild the whole top end..... Why not start with a rock solid foundation.....
Look up GM Part Number# 12363230. Cost: $2000.00 usd.
This might be a better way to start

go 4 barrel, the primaries are small so if you trying to save gas just dont get into it and open up the secondaries. A 4 barrel should do as good as a 2 barrel if not better becouse the primaries are very small. Or is there a reason you want to stay 2 barrel? Look into tbi or mpfi off a camaro or fiero.

I'm also going to suggest upgrading to a newer '86+ 2.8, for the larger main journals, which creates a stronger crank. The early small journal blocks snapped cranks under normal use and stock HP/torque. '87 or '88+ will also require a neutral balance flywheel/flexplate.
