i have a 2000 2.2 and mine pinged and knocked in idle too. for me it was the throw-out bearing. this salso happened to my friends civic. his was the throw-out bearing also.

its not that big of a deal. one way to test if it is the bearing or not is if it still makes the noise in idle when you push in the clutch.
