S-10 1998 2.2L - Main symptom: shifting into 1st or reverse was very hard to push into gear. 2nd/3rd/4th/5th not as bad, but still not smooth. So, I bought a clutch kit and installed; figured at 199,500 mi it was time. Bled clutch line with new DOT 3 fluid by pumping pedal 4 times then holding it down to let air out via bleader valve. Did this about 10 times or so. Nothing improved after all that! Still hard (if not harder now) to get into 1st/Reverse. Ugh. What am I missing? Thanks.

Yes, as part of taking the transmission off and back on for the clutch, I put 2 bottles of the expensive Syncromesh fluid in. I get oil on my finger if I stick it down the filler hole. Had to buy a huge 17mm hex key for the plug. Any more suggestions?

Answers to 4x4muddevil's questions:
1) Grinds when I shift into 1st or Reverse, yes
2) I don't believe it is catching on the floor
3) Never had a gear pop out; I know what you mean

Seems to be getting better today. Don't know why after 2 days of putting in a new clutch kit. Still not as good shifting as it was.
