we got one out of a 1997 gmc 2500 and it has these really little oil rings (3 mm i think) and every place that we order 1997 vortec piston rings they're always to big to fit in the oil ring grove....anyone know where i can get the right ones or if any of you have had this same problem

Make sure it is a Vortec engine. One way you can tell is that on the heads the bolt holes for the intake manifold will go at an angle instead of straight down.

If it is a Vortec then call the stealership. This may be one thing you just have to bite the bullet on and pay a little extra money, but at least you know you have the right part.

Edit: There are also some other differences between Vortec and standard SB Chevy engines, so if you can't tell about the bolt holes let me know and I will tell you some of the other differences.
