I have a 1992 Chevy s10 2.8 I recently did headgaskets, replaced the distributor, plug wires, and plugs. The truck starts up and runs fine for about 5 minutes and then it starts to surge and is barely drive able but if I turn the key off for 10 seconds and start it back up it runs fine for another 5 minutes and so on. What could be the cause

Weak fuel pump probably. I had a Buick LeSabre that did that.

If it's not the fuel pump check for vacuum leaks, one of the hoses may have cracked on not be connected after you did all that work on everything. Also, check your timing again if you pulled the distributor out of that guy there's a chance that it's not quite right and that will give you fits. Check your ignition coil for leaking spark, just spritz some water around it at night and see if it arcs out. You just did a lot of work on that truck and stuff may have gotten disturbed.
