Hey everyone. I'm new to this forum and fairly new to owning an an S10. I recently bought my 91 s10 to be a farm truck but have been having a hard time getting the 4wd to work.

Its a long story and I've tried a lot of different things so I'll try to keep it brief. I started by replacing the vacuum actuator under the battery. Didn't work so I then replaced the transfer case switch. Still nothing. I then tried bypassing the vacuum actuator using a clutch cable that I put in to connect straight to the differential cable to have a manual 4wd engage. This worked for a few weeks but now its out again....

I recently tried to dig back into it and realized that the transfer case is actually engaging and the vacuum line to the actuator is pulling air so I don't think this was actually ever the problem.

I am completely lost on this problem and would be grateful to hear any and all suggestions! Maybe it's an issue with the shifter fork or front diff cable? I'm running out of things to eliminate

Are you sure the cable is actually pulling on the front axle? It's got to be that or something in the front axle, as you mentioned shift fork.
