I drive a 98 2.2l extended cab. I remember when the noise first started: when my cat was so clogged that the truck would not run. It is an odd vibration seemingly coming from the center of the truck. I believe it is coming from the flexible area on the downpipe that is connected to the exhaust manifold. There is a small rip in the mesh that is supposed to allow it to flex. I think it allowing the downpipe to vibrate to much. But wouldn't it vibrate all of the time if that was the case?

If anyone has come across this problem any information would be appreciated.

a friend of mines extreme does that same vibrating. he hasnt diagnosed it but it is only at low rpm's like what you mentioned.

With the info I read, you may also want to check U-joints they tend to vibrate at only certan RPM's. Just a little help I hope.

thanks dudes i will check the u joints. i replaced one of them but i do need to check the rest. i will also that the drive shaft bearing.
