S15 Sierra Classic
Aqua Blue Metallic
I have always loved the 1st generation S10's. My sisters friend drove one as a DD for a long time. It was a family-friend owned truck since it was new. Eventually she had got another car and proposed to sell the truck to me, well if the price is right I was going to jump on it. 1000 dollars she said. So here I am, the new proud owner of a S15, which makes me the second owner. It was a two-tone red and grey, extended cab model with the 4.3 V6. So for a while I used this truck as my DD, 154,000 miles and still running strong for the exception of some bad valve seals cuasing it to smoke on startup. One day I sat down with my dad and told him I have always wanted to do a project vehicle. With me still living at home, and a decent job and some disposable income, I started my commitment to restoring this truck to a better than factory stance. With lots of planning and number crunching, I started my process late 2014 with a "frame off" restoration.
1989 GMC S15 Sierra Classic (Aqua Blue Metallic)
Under the hood consists of everything brand new, for the exception of the steering gear box. The motor is a GM Performance crate 350 motor. Rated at 330HP and 380 Ft-Lb torque. The motor is linked to a rebuilt 700R4. A custom CAI was installed, pulling air in from the lower driver side.
The interior is still a work in progress, as I have been trying to solve the issue of water entering the cab when it rains. Some things have been done. I have front bucket seats that came out of a minivan, and it was converted to a B&M floor shifter.
The exterior was completely redone. The body was lifted from the frame, the frame was repainted black. The truck was shot in Aqua Blue Metallic, which was featured on the 2010 Camaro. All of the seals front to back have been replaced, a new windshield was installed, and a new sliding rear glass. I acquired an NOS front grill and GMC emblem from eBay. The remainder of trim and bezels was ordered from LMC. All the exterior lights are LED retro fit, ordered from LMC.
The sounds system contains a JVC head unit. Front speakers are JVC, and the rear speakers are Kenwood. All speakers are stock size. I installed a mini 8" powered subwoofer from Sound Ordnance.
