  1. error code 42?

    So my 91 Jimmy 4.3 TBI threw a check engine light and stumbled a bit when cruising around 1500 rpm. I checked the codes and got a "42" electronic idle control module error. Where is that located? I wanna swap that bugger out. My truck has always had a rough idle so maybe this will fix it. :D

    When I do brake jobs I always seem to have issues getting the piston back into the caliper. I have tried using the old pad and a C-clamp....even tried opening up the bleeder screw hoping that giving the fluidand easier ecape path would work but its always a biatch. :rant: any tricks?

    well...a couple options First I am assuming you have a sub mounte din the drivers side quarter panel space. If not then there is a good spot depending on the size of the amp 1. remove spare tire from fender...mount it 2. Lose what little trunk space you have and mount them above the fuel...

    Umm..first things first...if you plan on a 383 stroker I would get a 2wd instead of a 4x4. Less stuff in the way for lowering as I expect you will do and the crankcase wouldn't stand a 383 for long anyway

    Its a gas thing... taking hard turns or going up hill with an 1/8th or so will cause your engine to sputter and in some cases die. Did this myself last night since my digi-guages flake in and out at their own will. Sometimes once the gas settles back there will be enough to re-start and...

    To my knowledge there was no trigger type switch in the back. Thats the reason they included that switch on the light. I would guess its one of your switches...either toggle switch in the back... one of the "door is open" switches...or possibly the one in the dash that adjusts you guage light...

    My 91 has a switch just to the side of the cargo area light located on the roof. Its actually part of the light. If that switch is on then all the interior lights are on. If its not that then I would guess someone wired a live wire into the system somewhere

    firstly..using 87 wouldnt throw a piston through your hood. You have no engine mods which require high octane... save your loot. as for the chip....never used one...did you disconnect the battery to force it to reset? Maybe it will learn new fuel curves and such? I wouldnt think you should...

    crap... I did my intake last summer. just be sure to do plenty of good sealant on the front and back. i would reccomend a product called "The right stuff". its the best i have seen. Obviously be sure you clean all mating surfaces well and if you can seem to get the timing right pull the...

    I have a single in dual out flowmaster 40 with custom "straight" pipes out the back so it looks like a true dual system. It is a 91 jimmy 4 door so your application may vary. Its plenty loud... plenty throaty and backpressure loss is minimal. I am not under the impression it makes it faster...

    as an owner of a 91 I would add this... your digital dash will fail....its not an if but a when. :rolleyes: You can get them repaired for approximately 100 bucks a shot but it will fail again at some point. Check the gas tank. There is a metal "cage" which is supposed to protect the tank but...

    possibilities... fuel filter, fuel pump going...so low pressure in the fuel line of course always possibility of bad electronics not providing enough fuel.. what kind of truck? year mileage etc? If its older I would start with a fuel filter and go from there

    Thanks for the input. The code has gone away for now. I was overdue for an oil change at the time and was about a quart low. Its been cold here and I do my own. I added a quart for the time being and shortly thereafter (about a day and 70 miles) the code randomly shut off and the truck...

    Glad it worked out for you. Just realize that whenever you mod anything on your vehicle...from the air filter to an exhaust tip...there is always a chance that it will screw something up. in the case of chips...I dunno I just dont see that they add that much HP for the money. If nothing else...

    man...like five different answers....and I always thought the codes were supposed to take the guess work out. My truck has always had a slightly rough idle when say stopped at a light or something I'm guessing the spark control thingy on the firewall. as for the tune up...its had cap, rotor...

    My truck is a 91 GMC Jimmy 4x4 with the TBI 4.3 and it recently ran bad all of a sudden...especially around 1500 RPM it would surge and shudder. It threw the service engine soon light so I pulled the codes and got a 42, something about electronic spark timing? Anyone have any input on that...
