Exhaust bolt removal tip

Some of you may already know of this but in case some of you don't here it is: I was trying to remove the two 14 mm bolts the hold the exhaust crossover pipe on my 95 2.2 (soon to be an L33) and of course they didn't want to bugle even with my 20v impact driver. Of course, I soak them with Blaster over a couple of days and finally got one out. The other required using a swivel socket at an acute angle which is not ideal. So I applied heat as most would do in a stubborn situation even to the point of glowing red but alas to no avail. Then I recalled a tip I had never tried, bring the bolt/nut to a glow and then quench immediately with water. I used a cheap spray bottle with the adjustable nozzle set on jet to cool it quickly. I had to do this twice and added a shot of WD, unscrewing it a fraction of a turn and then back it up and repeat until it broke loose and unscrewed. If you run into a really stubborn rusted bolt try the heat/water method it works!

Re: Exhaust bolt removal tip

get it red hot,let it cool a little and rub candle wax on the exposed threads
the heat will melt the wax and it will wick up the threads, lubricating them.
I keep an old candle next to the work bench just for that.

Also, in my experience you can't beat air tools. I only use my electric impact at the junkyard.

WANTED: 98+ radio delete panel.
Looking for a 94-95 2.2L 5-speed Extended cab, preferably white.
