Re: Vehicle Equipment Laws for each state.

For the Georgia guys who couldn't see it.

§ 40-8-6. Alteration of suspension system; operation of vehicle with broken springs

(a) It shall be unlawful to alter the suspension system of any private passenger motor vehicle which may be operated on any public street or highway more than two inches above or below the factory recommendation for any such vehicle.

(b) It shall be unlawful to operate any private passenger motor vehicle upon any highway, roadway, or street if the suspension system of such vehicle has been altered more than two inches above or below the factory recommendation for such vehicle.

(c) It shall be unlawful to operate any motor vehicle upon any highway, roadway, or street if the springs relative to the suspension system are broken.

(d) Any person violating this Code section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.

Glad I don't live there anymore.

I'm pretty sure that "modifying stock frame", aka backhalfing your truck is illegal in CA, but I'm moving to AZ in a month and I know they don't care.

My question is what happens if I move back to Cali in a couple years?

If the truck has to be inspected to register in CA again, is it going to fail??

If anyone has ever gone thru this, tell me what happened and what I can do about it if they bitch. Haha

Re: Vehicle Equipment Laws for each state.

WV isnt working. I have a few questions that someone might know.
- Are phantom grills legal in wv?
- Can I have my front turn signals behind the grill?
- Can I place my reverse light behind my roll pan, the light will be visible, but you will not be able to see the light bulb itself.

Not really a law question, but is there some sort of special liscense plate I can get for my 91 s10 that would make it exempt from inspection, like a classic or antique plate?

Re: Vehicle Equipment Laws for each state.

Guys, I just got pulled over for not having a third brake light (I live in California). Mine is completely shaved off. The cop was being a jack ass and refused to tell me why he was pulling me over... I just read through the links and did not find anything saying it is illegal. Does anyone have any input on this? I want to take legal action if the cop pulled me over for something that isn't even illegal. Can they do that now?!

If it came with the vehicle and you removed it...it's illegal. Just like pulling your catcon. Check the California vehicle section...I think it's the last paragraph in the stoplight section.

You might try a Blazer third stoplight mounted inside the rear glass. I saw one in a Blazer and it was very clean and almost invisible behind tinted glass until the brakes were used.

Re: Vehicle Equipment Laws for each state.

There are (or were) interior mount 3rd brake lights, I think Pep Boys even had them.

Another option, don't know if the police doing the checking will sign it off though, is a 3rd brake light license plate frame.

I found an Arkansas page.

It's a pdf. Lighting starts at page 315. Most anything relevant is after that.
