Rear axle

I picked up what is supposed to be an 03 ZR2 GT4 rear axle. The calipers are gone and it needs a lot of TLC, but that's not the question. I'm showing my ignorance again, there are two dish shaped appendages on the front side of the tube where the springs and u-bolts go,

You can see in the picture.

What are they called and more importantly, what are they for? Then, does this mean it is NOT the ZR2 GT4 I thought I bought?

Thanks.

Re: Rear axle

ZR2 = Wiiiiiiide
It's only good for a ZR2 since it's so wide - if it actually came from a ZR2.

Re: Rear axle

Post a pic straight on from the rear.
I don't see where the axle tube decreases in diameter just outside the differential housing. All ZR2 rear ends have that step down.

Re: Rear axle

Here is a different view. I got the step down on the left.

I think it looks similar.

Re: Rear axle

Yes, that's an 8.5/6. Likely out of a ZR2 Blazer. So it'll be 3.73 ratio and G80 style LSD.
