[Project] Slow Steps

OK, heres my new project thread. i will begin where i left off before the big forum crash.
Both notches are done now and i bolted the axle back in and im going to cut whatever else i need to lay it out fully. i started triming out the fenders and cut the driveshaft tunnel out for clearance. tomorrow i am going to notch out the crossmembe. for the driveshaft to clear.
Heres a bunch of pictures.
Stock:

Bagged in front:

Both notches done:

and thats about how much i have pictures uploaded for, there are plenty more in my photobucket. click it here: http://s77.photobucket.com/albums/j5...2/99%20Blazer/

Re: [Project] Slow Steps

ok, sorry no new pics from tonight but i have some from yesterday.
yesterday we cut out the floor for the driveshaft and i started cutting out the fenders in the rear for the tires. then today we cut out the crossmember for the driveshaft and let it down lower, its laying a lot harder now but there is stil more cutting left.

heres all of yesterdays pictures

this kinda sucks but it wont be a problem

its a little lower now

Re: [Project] Slow Steps

and some more little notes:
i gusseted my gas tank crossmember bars that i weled in and it made them a lot stronger and i also had to trim down the diff brackert because it was hitting the g-tank crossmember pretty good.

Re: [Project] Slow Steps

it was laying inners and the front at the same time, but heavier on the inners. and ihave a smaller tire than what is on it in that pic with just the front bagged.

Re: [Project] Slow Steps

you may not even need to dehump, that tire is smaller than mine. the most important thing i had to do was notch the lca mounts for the arm to travel farther, that is what i used to lay on before i got the spidles and did all of the extra work.

Re: [Project] Slow Steps

alright ive finally beenout there putting more time into it today. cut out the fenders and i measured the axle height from the ground with the axle all the way up into the notch and i will be able to fit a 245/35/20 with about 1/2 inch to spare so im excited about that. when i first did the notch i wasnt sure if i did it high enough to clear but now i know for sure. I pulled the front seats out and got the carpet moved out of the way, i was surprised at how much i had to cut for the driveshaft, i cut it even farther than before.

Re: [Project] Slow Steps

cool, thanks mans. i just finished up trimming out the fenders enough for everything to clear. im just figuring out now what to do for that crossmember for the driveshaft. i dont know if i just want to raise up the piece that i cut out for it or make a new section for it out of square tubing.

Re: [Project] Slow Steps

this is focking gay, i am pretty much going to redo the link, i have to move the front perches up a little and back just a tich. then i also need to redo the front wishbone mount on that new crossmember that i am making, i picked up some 2x2x3/16 wall for that today. my driveshaft was pushing too hard into the trans and the axle is a little bit forward than it should be, so that is the readon for moving the axle back. ill keep ya posted on whats going on. i want this to be done good the first time because i keep hearing about eveyone going back in a year to make it better.

Re: [Project] Slow Steps

sorry, havent updated in a while.

where im at now: i have the crossmember cut out all the way and the driveshaft tunnel out too.

i got some 2x2 tubing to make a new peice for the driveshaft and i have the front spring perches cut off and cleaned up again to be welded back on farther back and higher.

the frame is all smoothed out again, maybe ill get the link set up agian tomorrow but i have to work so i dont know if ill have enough time. im also going to michigan for the weekend to go snowmobiling from fri-mon so no work will get done. this is taking a lot longer than i thought but im glad that im taking the time and making it nice.

Re: [Project] Slow Steps

it should be set up for a 20 in the back, if i measured correctly i should have about a half inch of clearence between the axel and the notch when layed on a 245/35/20. i dont know for sure though. the tire is 26.8 but if that doesnt fit comfortably an 18 is fine with me.

and i think the city that im going to is Mass City in the UP. my brother and dad know but im not worried about where it is really, you just need the snow. he just asked if i wanted to come riding in MI so im like hell ya.

Re: [Project] Slow Steps

long time no update.

both of the perches are welded back on now, higher and farther back and now it should be perfect. i was doing some more measuring with the axle position and it will be more centered in the wheel well through most of its motion. i will need to trim more off of the diff bracket though because it binds with the gastank crossmember, if i trim down the crossmember anymore then the bolts wont go in for the straps.

oh, and the MI trip was good for a little bit, all 3 of the sleds we brought up went bad overt the whole weekend. my 96 XCR 440 the first day, my brothers 98 XCR 440 the next and our 2000 XC 440 on the last day, the XC tore one of the cylinders all up somehow, a metal chunck got in there (dont know what it was from) and destroyed the cylinder walls, piston and head.

yes i know the angles of the brackets arent the same but the bar end postiton is the same. i couldnt get the angles the same for some reason.

Re: [Project] Slow Steps

Spent some more time on it tonight. Got the crossmember mostly done, its assembled but not welded to the truck yet. I think it turned out awesome. Then i need to weld it to the truck and get my wishbone mounted to that.
