[Project] Pro-touring Xtreme

Well as some of you may know, my truck caught on fire and was a total loss, insurance wouldn't let me buy it back and now I'm starting from scratch. Luckily, it was covered and with the money I received, I scrounged up enough money to buy this:

It's a 2000 xtreme with 41,000 original miles on it. The owner before me had it for about 4 months and he bought it from an older gentleman who used it as a Sunday truck if you will, and took it to car shows etc. Before the p.o. it hadn't even seen rain for all of those years. The interior and exterior and under the hood are completely mint as you will see

So essentially its completely stock, and I'm assuming everyone has seen a stock xtreme before haha, but its a 4.3 auto truck (still miss my 5 speed but considering the shape and what I paid it was a tradeoff). power everything, nice center console like my last truck, factory rear tinted glass, heated power mirrors, overall a nice truck. Everything works as it should and I'm very happy, plus its 100k less miles than the white truck haha.

Some things I don't like:

7.5 no hop shock (white truck had the 8.5)
smog air pump thing (hp tuners is going to delete it)
front valence has some spider cracks

Short term goals:

Blazer D.P. Caliper swap with stock spindles
1" JTR blocks
Setback plates/axle shims
Qa1 Coilovers up front
245-50-16s all around
1" rear adapters
paint matched handles
shaved rear handle (still have the kit from the white truck)
bolt on steel roll pan
fix/spray the front valence
Hids everywhere
install system
intake/exhaust
some motor work
powder coat wheels black

Long term goals:

LSx Swap
stronger rear end
vette wheels/tires
rear disc swap/vette discs up front

Overall it's a very clean truck to start with, and I of course have more plans than money right now and the thread will move somewhat slowly in the beginning, but just like the last truck itll become something special

Re: [Project] Pro-touring Xtreme

long story short I got a brand new deck for next to nothing, and this is the first vehicle I have ever worked on that hasn't had the stock wiring harness cut and hacked out. Since I can work on everything out of the truck, I shortened up the radio harness, and bought a plug and wired it up the proper way with solder and heat shrink tube, then covered it with 1" heat shrink. I was pretty proud of my work:

Re: [Project] Pro-touring Xtreme

muffler has been replaced with a borla pro xs and duals have been finished for now with some stainless tips finishing it off. Not exactly my cup of tea with the tips but it sounds soo much better than the rustmaster even though its slightly quieter now. Pics tomorrow if I have time. I'm in this for the cost of nothing as well, and I want to start a log to keep ttrack of how much I spent post by post which will come soon as well

Re: [Project] Pro-touring Xtreme

Really need to update the pics, hopefully I can snap a few this week!

Just picked these up last night:

For very cheap, theyre light as hell, and staggered, so the rear is 17x8.5 and the front is 17x9.5 Tires are shot, but already dismounted and discarded, they are at my buddies house and will be sandblasted thanks to him and also powder-coated black hopefully by this weekend (fingas crossed). I already have a set of 245-45-17s lined up for the front from another buddy so now I just need a set of 275-17s for the rear and some 1.5" wheel spacers and I'm set. He threw in a set of 1" wheel spacers that "work" but they don't fit great. We did bolt them up to see where I am gonna need to be, but I don't want to be using these cast aluminum spacers that are slightly egged I think. And since they are a bmw or any other foreign car pattern they are like 120.5 instead of 5x4.75. So that being said, the fiance will be getting me spacers for christmas so I can bolt them up come spring. I'm having a hard time finding that adapter from ezaccessory.com have any of you ever bought them?

SO

A. Needs moar Low, but only another 1.5" up front and 1" out back (coiloverss =D)
B. The other set of the xtreme rims will be recoated a lighter silver I believe and will be up for grabs haha
C. zq8 bars are still up for grabs

I don't want to advertise any more here though, PM me for any questions, I need to make an ad still

Pics soon I hope aha

Re: [Project] Pro-touring Xtreme

Pics!

Exhaust:

Wheels: 17x8.5 up front, and 17x9.5 out back, too lazy with school going on but they are slowly getting blasted and powdercoated gloss black, all before spring, OH and I already have spacers for them and front tires, just need to get some rears

And the intake is installed as well:

And an overall shot for good measure.

HIDS are installed and LED clusters are done as well, needs to be lowered, just doing cheap/minor stuff til schools out, then the LSX swap will commence

Re: [Project] Pro-touring Xtreme

It's a little close but its a safe distance away, and I can still get it down.

The Rims are ROE? I'm pretty sure they are a bmw or mercedes rim or something like that.

My buddy also picked me up a vette servo that will go in soon.

And the squeelers are going off now so I'm picking up a set of hawk pads and drilled/slotted rotors to replace them for now (Eventual plan is to swap to blazer brakes or even bigger)

Re: [Project] Pro-touring Xtreme

Slotted rotors and ceramic pads are on now, and it def stops slightly better, but that could be from having the factory rotors and pads still, not too sure hah

Secondly, an Auburn Posi unit was just ordered for the truck by the fiance!

Pics soon

Re: [Project] Pro-touring Xtreme

UPDATE!

Well the truck is paid off now, and although I haven't been posting about it, it is not sitting at idle.

To start, here is how it currently sits on studded snows and 4 sandbags in the back =/

Now remember those wheels I bought before? Here they are after being powder-coated black.

They were supposed to be black chrome, but they came out blackish-gunmetal. Whatever, for free I have freshly powdercoated wheels. With my refund check, I am looking at a set of 285-40-17s for the rear, 255-40-17 for the front in nitto nt555.

Now in case you havent noticed, I'm not into bagging anything really, I'm more of a speed guy. And this open rear-end just isn't cutting it haha. This weekend I'm picking up a second rearend, to have the tubes fully welded on, put an aluminum girdle cover on, some camaro discs, 3.73s, and this piece...

Brand new Auburn Posi that the fiance grabbed of the bay for $220, an excellent deal seeing as these go for $400 usually. Between this rear and the new tires, traction should be less of an issue, to plant some more power I have planned.

I don't have pics of it, but I also grabbed a roll-pan, and have this from my old truck:

Both will be painted come spring along with a cowl hood I have waiting for me.

Also, thanks to deathpheonix, I have a quad-beam and direct battery power so they are BRIGHT now.

I also took the red leds out of the cluster, and put white ones in(hopefully pics later)

I graduate in 10 weeks, and I'm getting married June 1st 2013- so I'm trying to do as much to the truck as I can, but I have plans putting some things on hold haha. This summer I'm lowering it, painting those couple of things and respraying the front valence because of some scratches from the p.o., and throw on my toneau.

Its coming together, piece by piece, so let me know what you think!

and 3k posts woot!

That's terrible about your old white truck, it was so clean. Man I really feel for you on that situation.
Glad to see you got another s-series which looks to be pretty much immaculate. Looking forward to seeing more udpates.

Re: [Project] Pro-touring Xtreme

ok so not THAT great, but some body mods and schtuff, but the truck was buffed out today by my buddy and it looks amazing!

The list this year is:

Paint Handles/Roll Pan/mystery item/new front bumper/Tailgate
Drop 2/1 (spindles and JTR Stuff)
Wheels/tires
New y-pipe with a wideband
Hptuners (have credits just need to spend some time doing it)
Electric Fan
I hope rearend
Install Headers from the last truck
Bye-Bye Cat

Like I said, I'm getting married and the fiance will need a new car, so mods will be kept a little tight at the moment, but the 4.3 is to stay for a while. Next year though will more than likely see some forced injection as long as I can get ahold of a marine intake. I have a set of vortec heads with zero miles in my basement currently dissassembled for a polish job and z06 springs so stay tuned!

Re: [Project] Pro-touring Xtreme

My mind changes constantly with the motor lol Thats a ways off anyway. One minute its a lsx swap, the other a l31 vortec v8, and then a n/a 4.3 and then a boosted 4.3 so who the hell knows haha. It'll have a more potent powerplant one day. My dream is LSX swap and I know I can pick up a 5.3 cheap, but its everything else to make it work that breaks the bank. Plus I can't blow money at the moment because I'm getting married in a year and 2 months.

Re: [Project] Pro-touring Xtreme

Gonna follow this one! Looks great, what a find. Same exact truck as my old Xtreme, just 60k less miles, and prolly shit ton less issues/body rust lol.

I second beefing up the 4.3 because the parts are cheap, easy to find, and the engine itself is relatively durable.

Upgrade the rear end to an 8.5" w/ hop shock like you mentioned. I blew out one of the 7.5s after 6 months of owning mine. lol.

Regardless, this thread makes me miss my Xtreme.

I've had wayyy to many of these trucks. (Currently...on number 7)

Re: [Project] Pro-touring Xtreme

Gotta blow the cobwebs off this thread haha.

Well I graduate in 6 days (woo) so the time has come for progress!
I have a rearend sitting in my backyard awaiting it's new guts (posi 3.73s, new brakes etc). I REALLY wanted an 8.5, but this will do for now, and as long as it has a girdle cover, welded up axle tubes, and upgraded crush sleeve, it can handle the power. For instance LS1 f-bodys also have 7.5s.

That being said, my buddy blew his up in his camaro (hmm....I guess I haven't put much thought into that until just now) ...but anyways he has donated the rear disc setup to me as well from that. So when all said and done, the rearend will be set up quite nicely.

Exhaust is after that, I have all the tubing to make a new y-pipe with the help of a friend who can weld nicely. Just need to pick up a cat and hp tuners credits so I can tune in my rearend ratio, and fuel trims after the exhaust gets done. Headers are sitting in my basement along with rims waiting for tires. Also have aquired a steel bolt on roll pan, and cowl hood. SO stay tuned!

Re: [Project] Pro-touring Xtreme

That brace looks badass. Just wondering how it will work with a ZQ8 rear sway bar. Might have to switch to the Belltech bar.
