ls1 blazer

well im starting to slowly gather parts for blazer i purchased in july. So i decide ill start a project log so i have it as time goes on and share my time spent on it with others. I found this blazer for sale 3 years ago at the time the money wasnt there but i wish i could have owned it. Well one day in july i got the bug to get back in the car scene and i wanted a good platfrom that was a little different so i went on craigslist. I found the blazer again on 12 miles away and the money was there so i went to look at it the next day and left with it !

so far its been nothing but good to me and plans for the winter shall be fun but i wanted to start working on it now a little bit. So my buddy paints so i pulled my corners and marker lights and smoked them and doing the tails next weekend. i want to get into performance more then looks so i started looking for axles because the 10 bolt 7.5 open diff w 3.08s isnt the best to have behind a ls1. so i did some reading and went with a 8.8 lsd w 3.73 and disc brakes out of a explorer.

plans are for the moment

8.8 installed
cam
springs
stall
vette wheels

i keep going back n forth if i want to turbo it which i really do or just motor i guess we will see where money is this winter.

ill keep it updated and pics as i go.

i have the 8.8 now and the axles out, the old studs removed, the new holes marked for the chevy bolt pattern, new studs, conversion u joint, u bolts ordered should be here tomorrow. then i just have to get the brake lines and rotors and pads and put it all together and stall it. work been slow so should happen fairly quick.

im sure you guys have seen this before i bought it off a guy that posted on here and seen it on cl and purchased it

heres a pic of the blazer

Re: ls1 blazer

well cant figure out how to edit the page was gonna add more and bigger pics i guess ill just start here. if anyone can inform how to edit post thanks in advance.

well i got the 8.8 prepped and painted along with the dust shield and calipers

8.8 swaybar brackets removed

8.8 was ground down and cleaned up and painted

few pictures of the blazer

a little paint drop
before

after

hoping soon to get the djm drop coils and drop leafs. not sure what brand leafs to go with for a smooth ride. options guys?

have alot of plans for this for the winter

first off getting the 8.8 dropped in along with this list

95-97 blazer composite headlights and grill swap
55 watt hids 4500k
djm 3in drop coils
drop leafs maybe bigger blocks (not sure on brand)
ms4 cam
precision dual springs
stall (not sure how big or brand)
electric cut outs
wheel and tires (something with a 7in backspacing because im running the full length 8.8 and want to run so wide ass drag radials in the back hope i dont have a clearance issue with the drop. what do you guys think? like 4in drop in the back can i tuck a 315?)

well thats the plan no order but it will all get done. might also start fab on turbo manifolds if the time and moneys there =)

Yea for sure I'm stationed in Texas right now im in the army but i should be home sometime next summer.

I love the 5.3. I'll be going to the fast 102 intake with a bigger throttle body and get the heads done next winter. If your gonna run a car style intake i would run the LS6 the Ls1 is a poor car intake i hate to say it but the 5.3 truck intake makes more power and torque than the ls1 intake does.

Re: ls1 blazer

I say the TT2s are better because of form and function. You need traction with that V8, and the 11" rear wheels will allow a much wider tire than the 8" wide Xtreme wheels.

Re: ls1 blazer

I don't know the backspacing of the 17s nor how the rear fender lip is on a Blazer. But, I had to roll the lips of mine to fit the 18x9.5s. With my drop, the tire is almost going under the fender. The tires go a couple inches into the well during driving, and I have plenty of clearance.

If you drop it 5" in the front the lower control arms are going to bottom out on the frame over bumps and it'll most likely ride like ass in the front. Just a heads up.
